Start close to home. The City says Toronto History Museums are 10 City-run museums, and that general admission is free. The page lists Colborne Lodge, Fort York, Gibson House Museum, Mackenzie House, Market Gallery, Montgomery’s Inn, Scarborough Museum, Spadina Museum, Todmorden Mills and Zion Schoolhouse. Pick the one closest to your front door, then check its page for any March Break programming.

March Break Toronto 2027: A Week-Long Plan of Free Fun
March Break 2027 runs March 15 to 19. A day-by-day plan built on places with free admission rules we could source, plus when the official listings usually land.

The best March Break plans start in January, when the days still feel short and the week off still feels far away. Put March 15 on the calendar and use this page as your scaffolding.
Here is the honest bit up front. When we looked in October 2026, we could not find 2027 March Break programs posted yet, so we are not listing events. Instead, this is a week-long frame built from places and free-admission rules that the organisers publish, with notes on when the real listings tend to appear. Treat it as a plan to fill in, not a schedule to trust blindly.
When is March Break 2027 in Toronto?
Ontario.ca says the March break runs from Monday, March 15 to Friday, March 19, 2027, and that all schools are closed. The Toronto District School Board lists the same dates as Mid-Winter Break, and lists March 22, 2027 as the first day back. If your child’s school is in another board, check its own calendar.
That gives you five weekdays, plus the weekends on either side. For the colder-weather big picture, our winter in Toronto guide is the pillar page, and our free winter activities list fills in the rest.
When will the 2027 listings land?
We do not know yet, so here is what the past tells us, with no promises. For 2024, the City posted its winter recreation and March Break program listings online in a release dated November 17, 2023. That release said registration for March Break camps began on December 5 and 6, depending on the district. The City has also published a March Break roundup of free and affordable activities in past years, including one dated March 7, 2024.
Toronto Public Library keeps a March Break page too. When we looked in October 2026, it still showed the 2026 week, so expect it to refresh before 2027.
What about the weekends on either side?
March 13 and 14 and March 20 and 21 sit just outside the break, which makes them handy overflow days for anything that was full on a weekday. Easter also lands soon after: Ontario.ca notes that Friday, March 26 is Easter Friday and Monday, March 29 is Easter Monday, with all schools closed on both days. That is a second long weekend close behind March Break, so it helps to spread your plans.
Which day should you spend where?
Our suggested rhythm: one anchor per day, nothing booked too tightly, and a spare afternoon for snow, slush or a mid-week slump. Each pick below uses a rule or description the organiser publishes, and each is worth a second look on its own page.
The ROM says it is free for everyone on the third Tuesday night of every month, with access to most galleries, and that special exhibitions are not included. March 16 is the third Tuesday of March 2027, so that is the date its rule points to. When we looked on October 20, 2026, the ROM’s page did not list a March 2027 date, so treat March 16 as our reading of the stated rule, not a confirmed event. The ROM also says advance tickets are required and walk-in entry is not available, and that tickets are released two weeks before each event. If the rule holds, that would mean looking for tickets in early March. Check the ROM’s page for the date, since schedules can change.
The AGO says all Ontarians under 25 receive free, unlimited admission, which makes it an easy teen-and-tween day. The gallery also says it is a founding member of Toronto Public Library’s tpl:map pass service, where you can reserve a free AGO pass online. Our guide to Toronto Public Library museum passes explains how the pass idea works.
The library’s March Break page, in its 2026 edition, invited families to attend a music, art, STEM or French language program at a branch. It also said events and workshops for teens were planned at branches across the city. We expect the 2027 edition to follow a similar shape, but check the page once it updates for what is actually on.
End the week outdoors. The City describes Riverdale Farm as a historic working farm with 7.5 scenic acres, including wooded areas, ponds and gardens. It says winter paths are cleared to all of the animal paddocks, and that the Simpson House has a resting and warming area with public washrooms. If you would rather skate, see our free outdoor skating rinks guide.
What if you need childcare?
The City offers CampTO during March Break. It says CampTO is offered during summer, winter holidays, PA Days and March Break. CampTO Explore adds a workshop, local trip or special guest, and is offered during summer and March Break. CampTO Plus, also offered at March Break, covers themed areas such as arts, sports, science and nature. The City’s Museums and Cultural Centres also run CampTO Plus experiences set in gallery or museum spaces. Check the City’s CampTO page for registration details once the 2027 listings go live.
