How our stories are made
The short version: we write from sources, we list the sources, and we say so when we are wrong.
Updated 17 October 2026
How we work
We use AI tools to help with research, and the sources are listed on every story. The Loop TO is responsible for what we publish.
Each story is written from official and primary sources and reviewed in a separate pass before it runs. A claim we cannot back with a source does not run. If we cannot confirm something, we cut it.
Sources
- Every story ends with a Sources list: the official pages, City of Toronto and government data, and institutions we checked.
- Numbers about the city come from the City of Toronto, the provincial or federal government, or the institution itself.
- We only write about a business after confirming it is currently operating, from its own official website or social account, and one independent source. If we are in any doubt, we leave it out.
- For events, dates, venue and ticket details must match the organiser's official page, checked within 48 hours of the story being finalised. After an event ends, its page says so.
- We quote people only when a primary source has published the quote, and we link to it. The default is no quotes.
What we cover
The Loop TO is positive only. We write about the places, people and plans in Toronto that are worth your time, and coverage of a place is an endorsement. We do not publish crime, lawsuits, controversy, complaints, "worst of" rankings, politics, or health and safety claims.
Opinion is marked as opinion: "our pick", "we love", "a Loop favourite". We do not state superlatives such as "oldest", "first", "only" or "award-winning" as fact unless a source says so.
What we leave out
Prices, opening hours, phone numbers, reservation policies and menu specifics change, so we do not print them unless an official source publishes them. We link to the official site instead: check their site for hours and prices.
Images
- Photos are openly licensed (public domain, CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA) or used with permission, and every one is credited with its author, licence and source on Image credits.
- Where we use an illustration made with AI, we label it as an AI illustration, in the caption and on the credits page.
- We do not use real logos or trademarks as images, and we do not use photos of identifiable private individuals in a way that implies endorsement.
Independence
We do not sell coverage. Paid placements are labelled as sponsored. We do not invent readers, reviews, awards, follower counts or staff, and we do not show a number we cannot back up.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to know. Write to [email protected] or use the corrections page. We fix the story, add a dated correction note, and list it in the public corrections log.
