Accessibility
A city publication should work for everyone in the city. Here is where we are.

Our target
We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, across the whole site.
What we have done
- Colour contrast. Every text and background colour pair in our palette is tested against the AA contrast ratio, in both light and dark themes.
- Keyboard. Pages have a skip link, visible focus outlines, and controls that work without a mouse.
- Structure. Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can move around them.
- Motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, animation is switched off or reduced.
- Forms. Every field has a visible label, errors say what to fix in plain words and are announced to screen readers, and buttons and fields are at least 44 pixels tall.
- Images. Photos carry descriptive alt text, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Theme. You can switch between light and dark, and the site follows your device setting.
What we know falls short
We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so there will be problems we have not found. Visual tools, such as the neighbourhood map, are harder to use without sight; where we can, we list the same information as text. We will update this page as we find and fix things.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site is hard for you to use, please tell us what you were trying to do and what got in the way. Write to [email protected] or use the contact form. We read every message, and if you need a story in another format, we will do our best to supply it.
