Put it in the calendar now: the Toronto Black Film Festival lists its 2027 dates as February 10 to 15, 2027.

When is the Toronto Black Film Festival 2027?

The festival’s own site shows February 10 to 15, 2027. On October 20, 2026, the festival pages we loaded showed the February 10 to 15, 2027 banner but still listed 2026 events, and none named a 2027 venue or ticket details. That means we cannot tell you where to sit yet, and we would rather say so than guess. The festival asks followers to watch its X account for the latest festival news.

What is the festival?

The Toronto Black Film Festival was created in 2013 by the Fabienne Colas Foundation. The inaugural festival was presented by Global Toronto from February 13 to 17, 2013. The same foundation created the Montreal International Black Film Festival in 2005.

The festival describes its mission as giving unique voices in cinema the opportunity to present audiences with new ways of looking at the world. The festival says it will showcase the most outstanding and most powerful Black films, in its own words. It also aims at creating a space to debate major cultural, social and socio-economic issues.

How did the 2026 festival work?

Think of this as a preview of the format, not a promise for 2027. The 2026 festival was the 14th annual Toronto Black Film Festival. It ran February 11 to 16, 2026, in person and online. The festival showcased over 60 films from 15 countries.

The 2026 Opening Night Gala was held at the Isabel Bader Theatre. Closing Night in 2026 was at Carlton Cinema on February 15. The 2026 Black Market was a free industry series, in person and online, with workshops, industry Q&As and community panels, mostly at Carlton Cinema. The 2026 TBFF Family Day Festival took place on Family Day at the Carlton Cinema and was best for children between the ages of 4 and 12. It was the ninth edition of that Family Day event.

How do you get tickets?

The 2027 ticket details are not out yet. When we looked on October 20, 2026, the festival’s tickets page still described the 2026 offer: an in-person all-access pass, an online all-access pass and individual in-person tickets. If the 2027 edition follows a similar pattern, the official ticket page is where to look. Our suggestion: once the schedule is out, pick one opening-weekend film and one late-night screening, then add a panel if you can. If you work in film or want to start, watch whether the Black Market series returns, since the 2026 sessions were free and open in person and online. Plan your trip to each venue once it is confirmed, and check every screening’s time on the festival’s own pages before you go.
