Dates and venue come from the organiser's page. Check it before you go.
The tree goes up, the lights come on, and for more than seven weeks a corner of the Distillery District turns into a Christmas card you can walk into.
When does the Distillery Winter Village run in 2026?
The 2026 Distillery Winter Village runs from November 12, 2026 to January 3, 2027. Destination Ontario lists the same dates. This is the market’s 17th year.
Opening night is Thursday, November 12, and the tree lighting ceremony is at 6 pm. That night is ticketed, and profits from opening night ticket sales go to the organiser’s charity partners.
Which days are free, and which need a ticket?
This is the part everyone asks about, so here it is in plain terms.
- Admission is free all day Monday to Wednesday through December 13, and at every other non-ticketed time.
- Admission is free before 4 p.m. daily. On ticketed days you need to be inside the gates before 4 p.m. to get in free.
- Thursdays in November are free too, except on opening night.
- Tickets are required on opening night, from 4 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 4 p.m. every Thursday in December, and from 4 p.m. daily from December 14 to 31.
- Kids aged 9 and under do not need a ticket.
Tickets are sold online in advance and there is no onsite box office, so book before you leave home. If you have a dinner reservation or a theatre ticket in the district, you can skip the Winter Village ticket, but you will need to show proof.
Our pick for an easy first visit is a weekday afternoon before the ticketed periods begin, when you can wander without a timed plan. The organiser suggests arriving early because line-ups are expected.
What is inside the gates?
Dozens of seasonal food vendors and outdoor holiday bars serve savoury bites, sweet treats and festive sips. Seasonal vendor cabins sit alongside the district’s 90+ year-round shops, restaurants and cafés, so a gift run and a hot drink can share the same stroll.
Carollers roam the grounds performing live holiday music and Christmas carols, which is the soundtrack we would pick for the walk.
There is also The Immersive Nutcracker, set in the Fermenting Cellar. It runs daily from November 12 to January 3 and needs its own admission ticket.
How do you get to the Distillery Winter Village?
The market is at 55 Mill Street in the Distillery District, just east of Parliament Street. The organiser lists three easy routes: take GO Transit to Union Station and walk along Front Street or switch to the TTC, ride Line 1 to King Station, or take a 504A King streetcar eastbound to the Distillery Loop.
Why do people still call it the Toronto Christmas Market?
Because it used to be. The Distillery Winter Village was previously known as the Toronto Christmas Market, so if a friend asks whether you are going to the Christmas Market, this is the one they mean.
What else should you add to your holiday plan?
The Winter Village is one stop in a long season. Our Christmas in Toronto guide links the whole calendar, and our list of Toronto Christmas markets with 2026 dates covers the other markets. Pair it with a night at the rink for the Cavalcade of Lights, and browse the rest of the Distillery District while you are in the area.
Send this to the friend you would bring for the first cup of something hot.
