Cabbagetown Toronto Walking Tour: A Victorian Streets Loop
Start at Riverdale Farm, wander the Victorian rows the City protects as heritage districts, and finish with a clearer eye for bay-and-gable houses.
Downtown
Cabbagetown takes its name from the cabbages that newly arrived Irish immigrants grew in their front gardens in the 1840s, and its streets still hold rows of Victorian and bay-and-gable houses from the mid to late 19th century. The Cabbagetown Preservation Association describes one of the densest collections of original Victorian homes in North America. By TTC, take Line 1 to College Station, then the 506 Carlton streetcar eastbound to Parliament Street.
