The BIA says The Bagel House, at 1548 Bayview Avenue, has been bringing authentic Montreal-style bagels to Torontonians since 1999, and lists bagels, lox, cream cheese and other deli food. A strong start for a morning loop.

East York Restaurants in Toronto: Pape Village and Leaside
East York eats on two main streets. Here is how Bayview in Leaside and Pape Village work, how to reach them by TTC, and where to start.

East York eats best on foot, with a plan for the next stop. This guide gives you the two streets, the trains that reach them and a handful of places to start.
What is East York, and why does it eat so well?
It is a place with its own story. On January 1, 1967, East York and Leaside amalgamated to become the Borough of East York, and on January 1, 1998, East York became part of the amalgamated City of Toronto. That is why a Leaside bakery and a Pape Avenue storefront can both say East York and mean it.
Two main streets carry most of the food. Pape Village runs along Pape Avenue from Mortimer Avenue to north of Gamble Avenue. Its BIA describes the area as including captivating boutiques and locally-run eateries. Over in Leaside, the Bayview Leaside BIA covers Bayview Avenue from Davisville Avenue north to Parkhurst Boulevard and describes the vast majority of its businesses as small and independent.
How do you get to Pape Village?
Pape Station is on Line 2 at 743 Pape Avenue and is marked accessible by the TTC. Start at the station and walk the avenue. Our East York neighbourhood hub has more to see along the way.
How do you get to Bayview in Leaside?
Plan a loop. Leaside Station is at Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue, and the TTC lists Line 5 service there, eastbound to Kennedy and westbound to Mount Dennis. Laird Station is at 811 Eglinton Avenue East. Leaside Station’s bus connections include the 11 Bayview, which is handy for riding the main street instead of walking it. Our Leaside guide covers the stops in more detail.
The BIA describes the street as bounded by the historic neighbourhoods of Leaside and Davisville Village, and as both a local shopping, dining and service district and a regional draw that welcomes people from well outside the area. It was established in 2015, and its directory lists restaurants and bars in one category and bakery, dessert and cafe businesses in another.
Where should you eat on Bayview?
These Bayview places are all listed in the BIA’s directory, and each was posting on its own Instagram account in October 2026 when we checked. That is our evidence that the doors are open. Always check a place’s own page for hours and menus before you go.
At 1586 Bayview Avenue, Rahier Patisserie has been a mainstay on Bayview since 1996, according to the BIA, which describes artisanal European fare made with handmade techniques and all natural ingredients.
The BIA says Patisserie La Cigogne, at 1626 Bayview Avenue, strives to bring the quality and freshness of Alsatian delicacies each day, and lists traditional French desserts, croquembouches, wedding cakes, pastries, breads and chocolate.
Bomou, at 1636 Bayview Avenue, writes in its BIA listing that it shares its passion for traditional French breads, viennoiseries, pastries and chocolates. Rahier, La Cigogne and Bomou share one stretch of Bayview, which makes for an easy pastry crawl.
At 1677 Bayview Avenue, the BIA describes Chon as the latest culinary expression from Pii Nong Thai, offering an intimate and sophisticated dining experience in a warmly refined setting.
The BIA lists Indian Street Food Co. at 1701 Bayview Avenue, with dine-in, takeout and delivery.
The BIA lists Tiarré’s Brunch N Cakes at 1614 Bayview Avenue and says it is serving up breakfast and lunch.
Maker Pizza is listed in the BIA directory at 1674 Bayview Avenue, a pizza stop for the end of the loop.
What can you eat in Pape Village?
Start with a bakery. Serano Bakery, at 830 Pape Avenue, says it specializes in European pastries, and describes Greek pastries, breads and custom cakes plus a Greek food market with imported cheeses, yogurt, coffee and olive oil. Its own Instagram account describes a Toronto bakery serving European pastries, desserts, custom cakes and imported fine foods since 1994. The bakery’s site also points to its cafe at 1055 Pape Avenue, just up the street, and the Pape Village BIA’s directory lists Cafe Serano at that address.
For the rest of the avenue, the Pape Village BIA’s directory is the place to browse shops and eateries. Our Greek food on the Danforth guide maps the next street south, and our Line 5 Eglinton guide shows what to see on the ride.
How do you put a day together?
Keep it simple and let the transit do the work. Take Line 2 to Pape and spend the morning on the avenue with a pastry and a coffee. Then head to Leaside by bus or by Line 5, and finish with a loop of Bayview: bagels first if you are hungry, pastries if you are not, and dinner when the street lights come on. Bring a friend, and an appetite.
If you only have an hour, pick one street and one stop. A coffee and a pastry on Pape Avenue is a perfectly good East York outing, and so is a bagel on Bayview. If you have a whole afternoon, walk Bayview end to end, stop wherever the window looks best, and save the dinner decision for the last block.
Send this to the friend you would bring for a Bayview loop on a quiet Saturday.
