Free does not mean second-rate here: museums, galleries and passes, with the catch spelled out.

Free in Toronto does not mean second-rate. The City of Toronto says general admission at its 10 history museums is free. The Power Plant on the waterfront offers free access to its gallery and programs all year, and MOCA keeps its Floor 1 free to the public. The Bata Shoe Museum is free for everyone on Sundays.

Then there are the free offers with a catch, and we name the catch. The AGO is free on the first Wednesday night of each month, with tickets booked online in advance. The ROM's Free Main Floor runs from September 25 to November 29, 2026, also with advance tickets, and it does not include the paid exhibition. Your library card opens more doors through tpl:map, which is free to book and subject to availability.

Free offers change quickly, so each guide below links to the organiser and says what to check before you go. Every fact we state has a public source, and anything that is simply our taste is marked as our pick. Choose a guide, bring a friend and enjoy the afternoon.
